How is it Blame shifting when the UN HAD TO APPROVE the measure??? Doesn't seem like any blame was shifted...The UN screwed it up and let it get out of control...The Regulators weren't able at times to do thier jobs in accounting for where the oil was going, in what quantities it was being exported, where the "food" was being distributed, etc. Because Saddam Hussein wouldn't let them...The reason for the sanctions were to bring Saddam Hussein in line with the UN. The Oil for Food was UN Program, so it was the UN responsibility to control it...They failed.

I know it's off topic but I have to set dorkybutt straight here. The site linked above shows the US DEBT. It has been in the trillons of dollars long before George Bush was in office. The BUDGET DEFICIT is what is being added to the debt each year. We have been adding to the debt because the economy is coming out of a recession. The conservative thinking (supply side) is that the best way to bring in more tax revenues is not to tax more but to have a healthy economy. A healthy economy results in lower unemployment and and more spending which means more tax revenues. Tax cuts were seen as a way to help the economy as it was believed most people would spend their extra money on products and services. This is in fact what happened. The basic idea is to sacrifice a little on the budget deficit side now to reap even more gains in the future. It's a long term solution to debt reduction but the democrats are being told to only look in the short term. The fact is, the economy doesn't turn on a dime.dorkybutt wrote:yes japstr, your post is on the oil for food program... yet yalmuk brings up a very good point..
the bush administration are fucking idiots.... you really think they deserve the title of "conservative" when they authorize the national debt that high?
