VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Jurors who begin hearing evidence Monday against a pig farmer accused of being Canada's worst serial killer have been warned by the judge to expect testimony "as bad a horror movie."
Robert William Pickton is charged with the deaths of 26 women, mostly prostitutes and drug addicts who vanished from Vancouver's impoverished Downtown Eastside neighborhood in the 1990s.
He is accused of luring women to his family's 17-acre pig farm outside Vancouver, where investigators say he threw drunken raves with prostitutes and plenty of drugs. After his arrest in February 2002, health officials issued a tainted meat advisory to neighbors who may have bought pork from his farm, concerned that it may have contained human remains.

NEW WESTMINSTER, B.C. (CP) - Police were raiding Robert Pickton's farm searching for illegal firearms when they found a bloody scene, jurors heard in the Crown's opening statement Monday.
CAUTION TO READERS: the details of this case may sometimes be raw. Some content may offend.
Prosecutor Derrill Prevett said police found two large plastic pails that included severed heads inside two large freezers. Both had been cut in two vertically.
Police had to call in the missing women's task force and get another warrant before they could begin an intensive search.
Several human bones and teeth were found and DNA analysis has identified the remains of each of the six women Pickton stands accused of killing, Prevett said as the long-awaited trial for the pig farmer got underway.
He had the expertise and equipment for the task. He had the means of transportation available and the means for the disposal of their remains."
Prevett said Pickton committed the murders over the course of several years and that the women had been at his home, an isolated farm in Port Coquitlam, B.C.

The jurors were warned that what they were about to hear would be gruesome and horrific.
And in an opening statement, the Crown Attorney in the Robert Pickton murder trial wasted no time in proving the judge right.
Derrill Prevett told the panel that police found two large freezer bags on Pickton's Port Coquitlam property in 2002.
When they opened them up, they discovered human heads stuffed in plastic pails. The skulls had been cut in half.
They also found bones and teeth buried on the property, items which were later forensically proven to be of human origin and matched to DNA.
Pickton is facing 26 first degree murder counts, but is being tried initially on just six.
"These murders of these six women were the work of one man, the accused, Robert William Pickton," Prevett contends. "He had the expertise and equipment for the task. He had the means of transportation available and the means for the disposal of their remains."
And in a startling statement, authorities contend Pickton confessed to killing 49 women overall - and added he wanted to murder a final female to make it an "even 50".
The B.C. pig farmer is accused of being behind the disappearance of mostly prostitutes and drug addicts from Vancouver's seedy east side over a span of as long as three decades.

"His trial on sensational charges that he murdered and dismembered six sex-trade workers from Vancouver's gritty Downtown Eastside had begun."
But as Crown prosecutor Derrill Prevett opened the case with a chilling but dispassionate recital of the evidence against the pig farmer, Pickton stared straight ahead, motionless and little different from the way he has responded in court during years of preliminary arguments.
Dressed in white sneakers, casual black pants and a grey short-sleeved shirt, Pickton scribbled a few notes on a white legal pad, but showed no emotion and did not look at the seven men and five women of the jury.
Mostly, he sat still as a mannequin....Jury members, however, did not wince as Prevett spent an hour explaining the grisly crime scene police encountered after executing a routine search warrant looking for illegal firearms on the pig farm.......
Court heard investigators eventually uncovered three severed heads, other human bones, guns, ammunition, leg irons, handcuffs and at least one sex toy.

In lengthy conversations before and after the interview, Pickton also allegedly told an undercover police officer planted in his cell that he killed 49 women and wanted to commit one more murder to make it an even 50.
Crown counsel Derrill Prevett told jurors in his opening statement on Monday that police found the skulls of Abotsway and Joesbury stuffed inside plastic pails when they searched Pickton's pig farm.
The prosecutor also told the jury that police found the two five-gallon pails with human heads inside two freezers when they were using a search warrant for firearms.
In laying out its case, the Crown also said:
* The heads of Joesbury and Abotsway had been cut in half with a saw and the women's hands and feet had been stuffed inside their skulls.
* In the crown's opening statement, Previtt told the jury that DNA analysis had identified the remains of each of the six women Pickton is accused of killing in this trial.
* The remains were found either inside Pickton's trailer or in the ground nearby.
* The search of Pickton's mobile home also found a tote bag that contained syringes and an asthma inhaler belonging to Abotsway.
* In the garbage below Pickton's window, police say they found another four inhalers dispensed in Abotsway's name.
* Swabs taken of blood-stained clothing in the trailer also matched the DNA profile of Wilson, another woman accused of being killed, the prosecutor said.
* Wilson's remains were found in a bag at the bottom of a garbage can.
* In a laundry room of Pickton's trailer, a revolver was found in a zippered gun case.
* Its barrel was covered in plastic wrap, had an elastic band wrapped around it and had a sexual device fitted over it. The revolver had one spent casing and five other rounds. Forensic evidence detected DNA from both Pickton and Wilson on the revolver.
* Wolfe's lower jawbone and teeth were found in the ground in trough beside the slaughterhouse.
Authorities also found running shoes and a cross that belonged to Wilson in Pickton's trailer, the prosecutor said.
A number of bones mixed with debris and manure were found in the farm's slaughter house in July 2002, court heard. A total of 14 human hand bones were found in the area, including a bone from Georgina Papin's hand.
Prevett said three teeth found during the excavation of the ground matched the DNA of Frey.
Additional human bones found near the slaughterhouse matched no one identified as missing in the women's task force, he said.

"Whoa… okay, so he’s admitted to killing 49 women, and was going after one more when he was caught. He wanted to make it an even fifty. They found a bunch of severed heads in buckets in his house and… get this… he ground the women up and made sausages out of them and then sold them as pork! HOLY FUCK! The police are advising people that if they are worried about Hepatitis, they’ll be fine if they fully cooked the sausages, but if they have any left, they should throw them out."
