Liveleak bans 'Fitna' movie

Post by TagemandBagem »

Following threats to our staff of a very serious nature, and some ill informed reports from certain corners of the British media that could directly lead to the harm of some of our staff, Liveleak.com has been left with no other choice but to remove Fitna from our servers.
This is a sad day for freedom of speech on the net but we have to place the safety and well being of our staff above all else. We would like to thank the thousands of people, from all backgrounds and religions, who gave us their support. They realised LiveLeak.com is a vehicle for many opinions and not just for the support of one.
Perhaps there is still hope that this situation may produce a discussion that could benefit and educate all of us as to how we can accept one anothers culture.
We stood for what we believe in, the ability to be heard, but in the end the price was too high.
A garbage film getting exactly the kind of exposure it wanted due to a handful of idiotic extremists.

Liveleak serves as a platform for islamaphobes and racists to peddle hate speech and incite violence. The fact that it aired "Fitna" under the guise of "freedom of speech" speaks for itself.

But its forum section is dominated by racists and xenophobes. If liveleak wanted to maintain credibility it would have better supervision and guidelines over its own site (like this one does.)
Fitna, within the context of those who tend to utilize Liveleak, serves little constructive purpose at all. I am not opposed to showing Fitna (at a site such as TM for example) where it can be discussed as a piece of propaganda, but at Liveleak it only serves to support the agenda of the most the vile and provincial of society.

(The IED videos are different because the forum is not dominated by Jihadists or there sympathizers, AND the IED videos still occupy a relatively neutral space on their own, as do the US military videos. Both have a general appeal because they show how the war is being waged, operational procedure, etc. Fitna on the other hand has little to offer beside wretchedly fanning the flames of fear and violence.)

Most 'jihadi' forums are NOT permitting even discussion of the film, let alone URLs to view it. Liveleak is just following suit.
If not now, when? If not me, who?

liveleak is that mother! i go there everyday. On the other hand, you need to understand that putting out media is quite controversial and engulfing. What you show, and how you show it says alot about the content. There are more forces interacting with them than you think....give and take
