LONDON — British police, with aid from U.S. investigators, have shattered a global Internet pedophile ring, rescuing 31 children and rounding up more than 700 suspects worldwide, authorities said Monday.

Some 200 suspects are based in Britain, said the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Center, a government agency. Of the 31 children, some only a few months old, more than 15 were in Britain, the center said.

The ring was traced to an Internet chat room called "Kids the Light of Our Lives'' that featured images of children being subjected to horrific sexual abuse — including streaming live videos.

Authorities said they used surveillance tactics normally used against terrorism suspects and drug traffickers to infiltrate the pedophile ring at its highest level.

Officials also said the United States, Canada and Australia were Britain's main partners in the investigation, which involved agencies from 35 countries.

British authorities would not break down where the other suspects or children came from. A Canadian official said 24 Canadians were arrested and seven children rescued, but added that the time period was longer than the more than 10 months the British said their portion of the investigation lasted. U.S. officials declined to comment because their investigation is continuing.

Investigators with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said they could not immediately comment on the arrests because the U.S. investigation, spanning at least 12 states, is ongoing.

Toronto police conducted online surveillance along with British police, said Detective Sgt. Kim Scanlan of the Toronto police sex crimes unit. She said 24 Canadians were arrested and seven Canadian children rescued since late 2005.

"Every arrest we make we seize computers and information so there are a number of ongoing investigations,'' Scanlan said. "There's just been great cooperation. It's a good day, but it's one day out of many.''

The host of the chat room, Timothy David Martyn Cox, 27, of Buxhall, who used the online identity "Son of God,'' admitted to nine counts of possessing and distributing indecent images, authorities said.

Cox was given an indeterminate jail sentence Monday at a court in eastern England. That means he will remain in prison until authorities determine he is no longer a threat to children.

"Today's verdict serves as a powerful warning to those using the Internet to facilitate the sexual exploitation of children,'' said Jim Gamble, the child protection center's chief executive.

Cox was identified after intelligence linking the chat room to Britain was passed on to the child protection center by Canadian authorities in August 2006. The center is an agency under the purview of the Home Office that is made up of officers with special experience in tracking and prosecuting sex offenders.

After Cox's arrest on Sept. 28, 2006, British, Canadian and Australian authorities were able to infiltrate the chat room and collect evidence on the other members. Officers posed as contributors and even pretended to be Cox, running the chat room for 10 days.

At no point did officers distribute illegal images.

Forensic teams examining Cox's computer found 75,960 indecent and explicit images in addition to evidence that he had supplied 11,491 images to other site users.

A man described as Cox's lieutenant, Gordon Mackintosh, tried to resurrect the chat room in January. Authorities in Britain, Canada, Australia and the U.S. again infiltrated the operation.

Upon Mackintosh's arrest in January, authorities assumed his identity online and ran the chat room for three days while collecting information on offenders who traded images.

Mackintosh, 33, has pleaded guilty to 27 charges of making, possessing and distributing indecent images and videos. He is awaiting sentencing.

It's hard to believe people can really do this to little children. There is a lot on the net about the bust. Just google it.... It's everywhere. It's a BIG story.

Police Bust Global Internet Pedophile Ring

London, England (AHN) - Authorities from England, the U.S., Canada and Australia have successfully broken up an Internet chat room that was being used by pedophiles to broadcast live videos of children being sexually abused. The pedophile ring was linked to the web chat room called "Kids the Light of Our Lives," and the police were able to rescue 31 children while tracking 700 suspects.

According to Jim Gamble, chief executive of Britain's Child Exploitation and Online Protection Center, the chat room included images and live videos of children being subjected to horrific sexual abuse.

He said, "You could go and if you were in the club, arrange a time and a place when online you could view a child being raped and brutalized in real time."

The operation involved the participation of agencies from 35 countries to track down British ringleader Timothy David Martyn Cox.

Cox, 27, had been found to be managing the chat room out of his bedroom while working for the family business in Buxhall, 90 miles northeast of London, where he lived with his parents and sister. He will be charged with nine offenses related to possessing and distributing indecent images of children.

The evidence gathered by the police showed shocking abuse.

"(This was) not sharing a historic video ... but a child brought into a room - on Web cam - and brutalized for the pleasure of some deviant individual who might not even be in the same country as that child," Gamble added.

Better idea. In Brazil there are jail towns, little towns inhabited by convicted criminals with big secured walls around it. Sentence them to 6 months, burn CHILD MOLESTER on their face with hot steel and don´t intervene ..... even the worst criminals hate those people.

They recently caught a notorious paedophile in the U.S. too. The fact is though that the judicial system is a joke when it comes to child molestors. They'll get a couple of months suspended sentence and they'll be set free again...rape another child...arrested...couple of months...released again. Even the chemical castration they want to introduce in the U.K. is voluntary.

This sick **** in my state molested a baby so bad that she died of her injuries. I remember seeing this guy on the news. This monster is thankfully facing the death penalty. His trial has not yet been set.

Brutal death for girl, 2

The little girl's blue stroller still sits by the door. Toys she shared with two other children clutter a section of the living room.

But the 2 1/2 year old won't be coming home. Her life ended Thursday in a hospital room at St. Joseph's Children's Hospital, where doctors tried to save her from severe injuries that deputies say she suffered when her babysitter sexually assaulted her.

Eric James Tate, 18, described by a roommate as a former day care worker who had been dating the toddler's mother, remained in Orient Road Jail as news came near 3:30 p.m. that the child was dead. Deputies say that at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, they received a 911 call about a child with unknown injuries at 14711 30th St. in Lutz.

The girl had severe head injuries, including bruises on her head, ears, back and chin, according to Tate's arrest report.

At the hospital, doctors discovered the child was bleeding from her genitals. She tested positive for penetration during an exam for evidence of sexual battery. Her wounds, Sgt. G.T. Brown wrote in his arrest report, were "fresh and recent."

When investigators searched Tate's house, they said, they found the child's blood-soiled panties on his bed.

Charles Price, 19, has known Tate since they attended Buchanan Middle and Gaither High together, spending their days playing video games and skateboarding.

Since Aug. 1, the two men had been living in the same house with their girlfriends, the toddler and two boys, ages 5 and 1.

Tate, he said, is a hippie, a gentle guy with a constant smile, a good uncle, someone who loves children, who intended to marry the toddler's mother and looked forward to becoming a father.

Price said Tate told him the girl had been jumping on the couch and fell, hitting the coffee table, while his back was turned. He called 911 for help, Price said.

Deputies have not released the toddler's name, nor that of her mother.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter said the office wasn't releasing the girl's name because she is considered a victim of sexual abuse. Despite her death, no new charges had been filed late Thursday.

Death penalty sought for Tampa man accused of toddler's death

TAMPA, Florida (AP) — Prosecutors say they will seek the death penalty for an 18-year-old Tampa-area man accused of raping and killing his girlfriend's two and a half-year-old daughter.

Eric Tate is charged with first-degree felony murder, aggravated child abuse and capital sexual battery.

Tate nor his family members have spoken to the media about the case, but in taped jail calls they talked about him being wrongfully accused.

Tate was baby-sitting his live-in girlfriend's daughter in August when he called 9-1-1 and the child was rushed to the hospital with severe head trauma. He said Heather had fallen off a couch and hit her head on a coffee table while he had his back turned.

But doctors said the child's injuries were not consistent with Tate's version of events. According to case records, an exam revealed that she had been sexually assaulted.

Final reports from the medical examiner and DNA testing have not been completed.
